Job Title: Jr Electrical Engineer - Standards

We are seeking a highly skilled Jr Electrical Engineer - Standards to join our team at Hawaiian Electric Company. As a Jr Electrical Engineer - Standards, you will be responsible for performing design, project engineering, project management, and general engineering duties in support of our capital construction programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations, and related engineering design in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Conducts project design and cost alternative studies, field inspections, and prepares associated reports.
  • Prepares and manages cost estimates, budgets, schedules, material and construction specifications, and construction contracts for projects assigned.
  • Performs project engineering and project management functions for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates work by consulting engineers, evaluates proposals and bids for engineering services and equipment, and makes recommendations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in a discipline relevant to the Department from an accredited engineering school.
  • Thorough knowledge of the theories and principles of engineering acquired through advanced college-level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering design, project engineering, project management, and construction methods associated with electric utility facilities.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing, and ability to learn additional software tools to perform work.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement principles and best practices to achieve operational excellence.
  • Working knowledge of SafeStart principles and best practices to achieve a safe workplace environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the design of additions, modifications, extensions, upgrades, and rearrangements of company generation, transmission, substation, and communication and control systems and facilities.
  • Experience must be in a specific and relevant area of expertise.
