foot Emergency Department, with an innovative growing Perioperative division. The Salem Hospital Perioperative Care, Operative Team is an integral part of our nursing division.This Team is interprofessional, representing expert nurses, surgeons, anesthesiology, and support personnel, with many of our surgeons and anesthesia team practicing at both Salem and MGH.
In addition, this Operative Team offers a wide variety of procedures, including Orthopedic, General Surgery, Vascular, GYN, Plastics, Urology, Thoracic, and Spine.
Typical case load is 25 – 35 surgical procedures in the operating room.The Operative Team is renowned for its outstanding clinical outcomes and continues to be aligned with Mass General Brigham to focus on new high-quality, low-cost, innovative community-based ambulatory and inpatient procedural care.
The Operating Room is state of the art, featuring a Hybrid OR and a well-developed Robotic Surgical Program with the DaVinci Xi robot for a variety of General Surgery, Urology, and Thoracic Procedures.
Additionally, the Robotic Surgical Program has expanded to support Orthopedic hip and knee replacement procedures with the MAKO Stryker Robot.
There are plans to build a dedicated Robotic OR and two large multipurpose operating rooms.The Permanent Charge Nurse is designated for a given patient care area to oversee daily operations and work collaboratively with the Nursing Manager in planning and implementing patient care.
The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing customer service and serving as a role model for staff.The Charge Nurse is responsible for the daily assignment of staff, patient flow, and shift-to-shift decision making regarding staffing.
The Charge Nurse participates with the Nurse Manager in the development of patient care clinical standards, evaluation of outcomes, and development of improvement initiatives.

Salem Hospital Perioperative Division has a dedicated Perioperative Nurse Educator to assist with learning the role of the OR RN.
The Registered Nurse will be afforded the opportunity to explore all areas of surgical specialties and develop a deep concentrated skill set in the surgical procedures performed at Salem Hospital.
Demonstrates clinical experience in the assigned area- Utilizes current concepts of nursing practice in the management of patient care
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to organize, coordinate, and participate in the evaluation of care delivery
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to promote effective working relationships with all members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with stress relating to the changing organizational climate, personnel, and patient care issues. Completion of a Nursing degree
