Veterinary Surgery Specialist Position

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Surgical Veterinary Technician to join our team at Ethos Veterinary Health. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures and providing exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-surgical examinations and obtain medical histories for patients undergoing surgery.
- Administer pre-anesthetic medications and monitor patient responses to anesthesia.
- Insert and manage IV catheters for fluid therapy and medication administration during surgical procedures.
- Sterilize and set up surgical instruments and equipment to maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Assist in tissue handling, retraction, and other tasks as directed by board-certified surgeons.
- Record all data accurately for the medical record, including anesthesia records, patient monitoring data, and postoperative care information.
- Adjust anesthesia levels and administer additional medications as needed to ensure patient comfort and safety.
- Provide postoperative care, including pain management and wound care, to ensure optimal recovery outcomes.
- Ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure, maintaining a high level of cleanliness and organization.
- Explain postoperative care instructions to pet owners and provide updates on the patient's condition to keep them informed and engaged.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with a valid CA-RVT license.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with staff, clients, and pets, using tact, patience, and professional courtesy.
- Consistent and reliable ability to monitor anesthesia, perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices, and estimates.
- Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60 days of hire or transfer into this role.
- Proficient in anesthesia administration and monitoring, with a strong understanding of veterinary medicine and surgical procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach to patient care.
