Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures. As a key member of the surgical team, this individual is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, handling instruments and equipment, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preoperative Duties:
    • Gather and prepare necessary supplies and equipment.
    • Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand.
    • Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts.
    • Assist with gowning and gloving.
    • Assist with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
  • Intraoperative Duties:
    • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies.
    • Measure and pass medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions.
    • Hold retractors or instruments, sponges, or suctions the operative site.
    • Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique.
  • Other Duties:
    • Assist in turn overs and prepping the OR for the next patient.
    • Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting in all aspects of managing the care of the adult surgical patient within their scope of practice. This includes participating in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, as well as maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to patient and facility matters.

Requirements:

  • Current licensure in good standing in the state of Massachusetts.
  • 1-year Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the past two years.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
