Job Summary:

The Director of Accounting and Reporting, Accounting Advisory Services is responsible for providing expert guidance on complex accounting and reporting matters to public and private companies. This role involves advising clients on the proper application of accounting standards, implementing new accounting standards, and administering training on accounting and reporting related matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Expertise: Develop, administer, and deliver training courses or presentation materials on accounting and reporting related matters, including:
    • Defining training goals
    • Supervising course development or updating, and evaluating courses
    • Facilitating training courses, and evaluating course/presentation effectiveness based on participant and presenter feedback
  • Client Advisory: Research complex auditing and reporting problems, and communicate back to clients in both written and verbal formats
  • Tool Development: Leverage existing and design new ARAS tools and templates for use on ARAS engagements
  • Accounting Standards: Evaluate the impact of new accounting standards and new business transactions, including business combinations; discontinued operations, debt modifications, stock compensation, and other complex financial instruments
  • Thought Leadership: Produce Thought Leadership pieces, conference calls, and live presentations for clients and prospective clients
  • Business Development: Develop business opportunities
  • Professional Committees: Participate on professional committees
  • Regulatory Compliance: Apply relevant GAAP, GAAS, SEC, PCAOB, and other applicable or emerging regulations and standards, as well as the BDO Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Career Development: Act as a Career Advisor to associates, seniors, and managers as assigned
  • Performance Reviews: Provide verbal and written performance reviews to associates, seniors, and managers, as applicable
  • Work Review: Review work prepared by associates, senior associates, and managers, and provide review comments, as appropriate
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or Economics, required; OR Bachelor's degree in other focus area AND CPA certification, required; Master's in Accountancy, preferred
  • Experience: Ten (10) or more years of experience providing accounting and reporting advisory services, required; Five (5) or more years of supervisory experience, required
  • License/Certifications: CPA certification, required
  • Software: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, preferred; Experience with accounting research databases, preferred
