Purchasing Agent
Shift/Schedule: Day shift

This role is responsible for acquiring inventory materials, special orders for customers, shipping supplies, and materials for the coating center. The Purchasing Agent ensures that material stock levels are maintained efficiently and cost-effectively. Additionally, this position oversees consignment inventory with various suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure inventory materials, special orders for customer requests, shipping supplies, and coating center materials. Confirm order acknowledgments and associate them with purchase orders.
  • Manage consignment and stock levels for both East and West facilities. Oversee the organization of lot bins for both consigned and owned materials.
  • Complete all necessary electronic and hard-copy documentation for each order, including barcode scanning and ensuring paperwork is finalized before advancing products to the next operation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on pricing, discrepancies, quantities, delivery schedules, quality concerns, returns, and corrective action requests.
  • Communicate effectively with Quoting, Engineering, and Expediting teams; suggest alternative materials or products when necessary.
  • Supervise the receipt of shipments from suppliers: verify packing slips against corresponding purchase orders, check quantities, finalize receipts in the system for Accounting, and coordinate with them on debits and credits.
  • Maintain the salvage materials.
  • Record daily receiving summary sheets from the Raw Material department and monthly Material Certifications from suppliers.
  • Reporting: Prepare daily workstation reports including Stock Material Pulls, Saw & Reamer reports, Weekly Consignment Reports to suppliers showing weekly usage and material trackers, weekly Open Order reports to suppliers, and monthly Vendor Performance reports.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensure a tidy, organized, and safe work environment. (5S)
Qualifications/Education/Skills
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a purchasing role is essential.

Ability to communicate effectively and comprehend job instructions both verbally and in writing.
Commitment to punctuality and attendance.
Integrity - trustworthy, honest, and ethical.
Ability to work collaboratively as a team player, adaptable to changes, and build positive relationships.

Equipment Utilized
Computer, measuring instruments including: calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, microscope, and scales.

Working Environment
Engaging with carbide in various forms.

Collaborating with international suppliers across different time zones.

Physical Demands
Must be comfortable working with hands and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, reach, perform repetitive tasks, and bend throughout the workday.

Compensation Range: $18 - $25 per hour
