Position Summary:
The Healthcare Access Coordinator will play a crucial role in facilitating the coordination, prioritization, and execution of front-end patient registration processes, encompassing everything from pre-registration to discharge within the Patient Access Services Department.
This role focuses on prioritizing tasks to optimize reimbursement and mitigate financial risks for both patients and the healthcare facility.
It is essential to ensure that all insurance prerequisites are fulfilled prior to or on the service date, while also informing patients of their financial responsibilities and collecting any due amounts.
The Coordinator will maintain a comprehensive understanding of insurance policies, registration procedures, scheduling, referrals, authorizations, and account follow-up.
Familiarity with various departmental system applications utilized by Patient Access is required, along with adherence to all relevant state and federal regulations, including EMTALA, CMS, HIPAA, and JCAHO guidelines.
Responsibilities also include obtaining necessary signatures and scanning relevant documents such as the Admission/Registration Agreement, Notice of Privacy Practices, and Important Messages from Medicare.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare or customer service is necessary. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other commercial payers (HMO, PPO) is preferred.
- An associate or bachelor’s degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Certification as a Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) is preferred. Proficiency in typing with a minimum speed of 35 wpm and strong communication skills are essential.
