Job Summary

Christie Clinic is seeking a highly skilled Insurance Specialist/Medical Assistant to join our Spine and Pain department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for obtaining insurance prior authorization for ordered treatments and procedures, scheduling procedures and office appointments, and providing direct patient care in a clinic office setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, office staff, and insurance carriers to facilitate timely scheduling of recommended surgeries and procedures.
  • Obtain precertification and prior authorization for surgeries and procedures.
  • Schedule ordered procedures and surgeries in a timely manner.
  • Clarify orders for requested surgeries and procedures as necessary.
  • Coordinate patient surgeries and procedures with existing physician surgical and procedure schedules.
  • Maintain an organized work area and complete assigned tasks in the medical record.
  • Act as a receptionist in the absence of the regular receptionist, checking patients in for appointments, answering phones, and scheduling appointments.
  • Triage phone calls and review and analyze information prior to submission of prior authorization requests.
  • Accurately obtain and document necessary information to process and submit prior authorization requests.
  • Utilize third-party payer portals, insurance payer portals, or governmental payer portals to process submission of prior authorization requests.
  • Update insurance information, authorization status, and other pertinent information required for scheduling.
  • Coordinate scheduling of add-on and stat surgeries and procedures, including prior authorization, scheduling with patients, and coordinating with performing providers.
  • Correspond with ordering providers and offices regarding authorization status updates and claim/charge denials.
  • Advocate for patients and providers by processing referrals in a timely manner.
  • Schedule patient appointments, including entering lab orders, imaging orders, and referrals.
  • Obtain patient vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies and equipment prior to appointments.
  • Clean and restock rooms at the end of the day.
  • Perform chart preparation according to department standards.
  • Maintain and update patient medical records, including allergies, medications, past medical history, and other relevant information.
  • Use a flag system per standard work and review and respond to the EMR work list per department standard work.
  • Complete lab order entries and assist providers with procedures and surgeries as needed.
  • Assist in patient education regarding medication instructions, procedures, wound care, and other necessary information pertaining to patient care.
Requirements

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited program for certified nursing assistants or certified medical assistants. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
