Clinical Charge Nurse

The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is a key member of the healthcare team, responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift. This role requires a strong clinical expertise and leadership skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Rounds on every patient daily to evaluate quality and appropriateness of patient care, taking corrective action when needed.
- Performs or provides oversight for the Nursing Process, utilizing evidence-based practice and analytical/critical thinking to ensure individualized care.
- Provides or provides oversight for relationship-based care delivery, partnering with patients and significant others to achieve optimal patient care outcomes.
- Practices using current clinical practice standards, focusing on safety and quality.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Communicates with nurse manager and/or assistant nurse manager regarding needs or concerns related to care delivery or employee performance.
- Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care, promoting interdisciplinary communication and regular interdisciplinary planning/rounds.
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Professional Development
- Ensures patient/family/staff confidentiality and corporate compliance, completing all required mandatory education and proficiencies.
- Serves as a preceptor (or mentor) for other professional nurses, modeling the professional practice of nursing and creating a healthy work environment.
- Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing, participating in activities such as value analysis.
- Upholds all healthcare system/organizational policies and procedures, clinical competencies, and professional association standards, ensuring goals such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes.
- Resources and Support
- Monitors equipment inventory, location, and utilization to ensure staff have the necessary tools and equipment to perform their job.
- Participates in planning and requesting resources for providing high-quality care, assisting in acquiring appropriate staffing during unexpected staffing shortages or surges in census.
- Tactical Responsibilities
- Makes patient assignments, considering new grads, float, and type of patient.
- Conducts daily discharge/length of stay review, rounds with physicians/surgeons, and assigns surgery beds in conjunction with surgery schedule.
- Consults with supervisor nursing administration (house supervisor) on bed flow and availability.
The RN Clinical Charge Nurse must possess a graduate degree from an accredited/approved school of nursing, with a minimum of 1 year of nursing experience. Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing is preferred. All certifications are required upon hire, including Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor and Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact.
