Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) is seeking a highly skilled Contract Staff Attorney to join its Houston Branch Office. As a key member of the Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) project, you will play a vital role in advancing the civil rights of low-income Texans.
Responsibilities- Represent clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of government.
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community.
- Develop and implement outreach and community education programs to further the mission of LSLA.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers.
- Handle a caseload, including major litigation, and participate in evening legal clinics.
- Graduate of an accredited Law School.
- Licensed to practice in Texas or qualify for reciprocity.
- Prior legal services or public interest experience preferred.
- Strong legal writing and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated client service orientation.
- Skilled in interviewing, assessment, problem solving, and negotiation.
- Ability to work under pressure and make decisions quickly.
- Energetic, motivated, and self-starter.
- Medical benefits.
