About the Job:

We are seeking an experienced Principal/Staff mechanical engineer to join our team remotely in San Francisco Bay Area or on-site at our Salem facility. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of mechanical design experience with 2+ years of robotics design experience. This role requires leading cross-functional teams to develop new technologies, engineer new products, and refine/maintain existing designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead major subsystem design
  • Own architecture, design, implementation, testing, and commercialization for relevant hardware subsystems
  • Drive engineering specifications from product requirements and work cross-functionally to align engineering specifications with different domains (electrical, mechanical, industrial design, software, test, manufacturing etc.)
  • Create subsystem CAD and ensure quality
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews
  • Drive the development of specifications, requirements, test methods and protocols through formal verification to ensure functionality, safety and efficacy of design

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanism design, packaging, and knowledge of various types of motors, encoders, sensors, power transmission, and drive-train-related components such as gears, splines, lead screws, linear guides, harmonic drive actuators, etc.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent, minimum requirement)
  • Proven experience designing and building mechanisms and assemblies, ideally with a background in robotics
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical analysis including modeling tolerance stacks, static and dynamic analysis, FEA and thermal analysis
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and team development

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The estimated salary for this position is $140,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience
