Copper River Native Association is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Public Safety Officer to provide public safety and law enforcement services in rural areas and communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and training village public safety officers, conducting investigations, and providing training programs in areas such as drug and alcohol awareness, water safety, and gun safety.
Key Responsibilities- Public Safety and Law Enforcement: Enforce Alaska Statutes and Tribal Ordinances with due process, assist local, state, and federal first responder agencies, and provide day-to-day supervision of assigned VPSOs.
- Training and Development: Support VPSOs in all aspects of their duties, be a Field Training Officer to VPSOs, and provide training programs in areas such as drug and alcohol awareness, water safety, and gun safety.
- Community Engagement: Meet with local leadership on VPSO issues, report to the coordinator, and support the establishment and operation of local volunteer fire departments.
- Emergency Response: Provide emergency fire and medical response, coordinate and assist in search and rescue missions, and aid VPSOs in incident reporting and community communications.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate with Alaska State Trooper Support Officer and Director of Public Safety on critical incidents, assist in training and operating local Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), and assume command of VPSO staff during emergency response.
- Certifications and Experience: Certified as a VPSO, presently or within the last ten (10) years, with supervisory experience and knowledge of EMS, search and rescue, emergency management, or firefighting.
- Qualifications: Possess a valid AK driver's license with an acceptable driving record, meet VPSO minimum qualifications for citizenship, age, education, medical and mental fitness, and not denied or revoked VPSO or other law enforcement certification.
