Laser Technician Job Description

This is a 1st shift position that requires a high level of technical expertise and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the maintenance and repair of laser equipment and chillers, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and MPG requirements.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to team members on laser tooling maintenance and repair, adhering to vendor and MPG requirements.
  • Take the lead in calibrating and testing laser power measurement devices, both in-cell and test equipment.
  • Perform complex service and repair of laser products, utilizing judgment to resolve problems and make recommendations.
  • Set up and verify laser beam delivery, including cover slide, focus, nozzle tip centering, and remote laser beam alignment.
  • Configure and change fiber optic cable routing, cutting head, and remote laser dress packages as needed.
  • Install and support laser products, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with production, spare parts, and plant engineering teams to improve uptime and efficiency.
  • Work with plant and corporate engineering to enhance dimple quality, cut quality, weld quality, and uptime.
  • Consult with corporate laser engineers and plant engineers to resolve unusual product operation and maintenance issues.
  • Conduct test studies, documenting parameters, tooling, and additional information as required.
  • Develop and debug programs using CNC programming and in-house software.
  • Write, teach, and debug programs using robot programming and in-house software.
  • Direct production labor after equipment setup and validation.
  • Operate laser equipment to process materials and parts to meet customer specifications.
  • Document test results in electronic reports using MS Office.
  • Record changes to existing jobs, including parameters, tooling, and other relevant information.
  • Perform field testing and data collection to improve products and processes.
  • Develop and maintain work instructions.
  • Construct and test circuits and equipment using various tools and test equipment.
