Position: Interim Financial Controller

Location: 100% in-office

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare and evaluate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
    • Oversee the closing processes for monthly, quarterly, and year-end financials.
    • Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
    • Handle cash receipts and cash management activities.
    • Maintain the General Ledger.
    • Conduct budgeting and forecasting exercises.
    • Perform variance analysis on revenue and expenditures.
  • Facilitate the transition from one accounting software to another, ensuring smooth integration and optimization of financial systems.
  • Document fixed asset transactions including acquisitions, capitalizations, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
  • Reconcile mortgage and reserve account balances.

Financial Analysis and Compliance

  • Analyze financial data to uncover trends and opportunities for improvement, focusing on revenue and expenditure variances.
  • Supervise the monthly tracking of the annual budget and forecasts.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP and other regulatory standards, collaborating with internal and external parties to resolve any issues.
  • Work alongside treasury for cash management, assessing cash requirements at various intervals.
  • Lead or participate in audits and compliance-related activities.
  • Coordinate tax return preparation with external CPA firms.
  • Organize and prepare year-end 1099 forms.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department once established.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to accounting team members, promoting a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Evaluate the outputs of both self and team to ensure alignment with client expectations.

Strategic Planning and Implementation

  • Collaborate with ownership and management to formulate and execute strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and financial outcomes.
  • Assess, implement, and refine policies, procedures, and methodologies.

  • Exceptional ability to analyze, evaluate, and compile data into clear reports and presentations.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • 7-10 years of experience in a Controller role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is required.

  • Experience in a startup environment is preferred.
  • Support for decentralized decision-making is essential.
