Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Communication Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge space, tactical, and enterprise network communications systems. This role provides a unique opportunity to work closely with customers to develop multi-function systems from concept to implementation that support critical defense programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop groundbreaking technologies and work closely with customers to develop multi-function systems from concept to implementation.
  • Design, develop, and integrate space-based laser communications systems, including algorithm development, modem development, and firmware development.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Business Development, Systems, Software, RF circuits, FPGA design, and others, to identify, pursue, capture, and execute high-priority opportunities.
  • Lead trade studies and architect innovative solutions to difficult technical problems.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and subcontractors.
Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience in lasercom space payload design.
  • 3+ years of experience with space-based laser communications, including design, development, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Advanced waveform/modem architecture development.
  • Proven experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Validated experience in the development of trade studies.
  • Proven customer engagement and subcontractor management experience.
  • Strong analytic/mathematics background with experience in system modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB.
  • Strong system, software, or test background, including design and implementation.
  • Strong technical leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • U.S. Government Position. U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of model-based system engineering techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead trade studies and architect innovative solutions to difficult technical problems.
  • Verified experience with optical communication systems.
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
  • Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance.
What We Offer

Viasat offers a comprehensive compensation package, including a salary range of $176,000 to $306,200 annually, plus additional cash or stock incentives, and a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
