JOB SUMMARY
The Imaging Technologist is responsible for executing a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures, including mammography, ultrasound, echocardiography, CT scans, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, and DEXA scans. This role involves patient preparation, conducting imaging procedures, and ensuring the proper processing of exams for radiological evaluation. The position reports to the Radiology Director and is classified as non-exempt.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepares and instructs patients for various imaging examinations, including roentgenographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
- Selects the appropriate imaging equipment for each specific procedure.
- Determines the optimal anatomical positioning and shielding for patients during examinations.
- Collaborates with physicians to assess and manage patient discomfort to ensure effective imaging.
- Conducts specialized imaging examinations that require unique equipment and techniques, documenting diagnostic findings.
- Operates both portable and stationary imaging devices to capture high-quality images for diverse examinations.
- Assists in the training and development of students and other healthcare personnel.
- Performs quality control checks on imaging equipment and maintains accurate logs as necessary.
- Secures permanent records of internal examinations through imaging of organs.
- Transfers and retrieves images from the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the procedure room, making minor adjustments to equipment as required.
- Compiles and upholds quality assurance data for mammography in compliance with ACR standards, Texas Department of State Health Services, FDA regulations, and the Department of Human Services.
- Utilizes all equipment according to manufacturer guidelines, ensuring safe and effective operation.
- Delivers high-quality imaging services in accordance with the prescribed examinations under the supervision of the Radiology Medical Director.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers is required.
- Eligibility for MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Echocardiography, Ultrasound, Mammography, and DEXA registry is preferred.
- AAS degree in Radiology Technology is required for Radiologic Technologists.
- Current certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or CRT is required.
- Current license from the Radiology Texas Medical Board (TMB) is required.
- For Ultrasound, eligibility for ARDMS or ARRT is required, with registry completion within one year of hire.
Required Skills
The candidate must demonstrate exceptional communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with proficiency in additional languages being advantageous. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service are essential. The individual should possess a high level of organizational ability and be capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently. Advanced computer skills are required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
