STATEMENT OF DUTIES

SUMMARY OF JOB CLASSIFICATION: This role oversees and directs the activities of language interpreters within a judicial district. It is essential to implement language access policies and effective operational practices while ensuring compliance with the Colorado Code of Professional Responsibility for Court Interpreters. A State or Federal Interpreter Certification or equivalent is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To successfully perform this role, an individual must effectively carry out the essential functions listed below.   • Supervises assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, providing training, guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Organizes and arranges interpreter services for Judicial Districts.
  • Monitors state policies and assists staff, judges, and administration in the appropriate use of interpreters during court proceedings.
  • Provides interpreting and linguistic communication services both virtually and in person for complex court proceedings, probation clients, witnesses, litigants, members of the public, and court and probation staff.
  • Handles relevant case information and finalizes invoices for independent contractors.
  • Acts as a liaison for internal and external stakeholders regarding interpretation needs within the district.
  • Communicates with Judicial Officers and clerks to determine optimal methods for providing interpretation.
  • Procures and supplies necessary equipment for interpretation settings.
  • Participates in meetings and collaborates with internal teams, local partners, and statewide committees.
  • Engages in professional development training.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

OTHER DISTINGUISHING FACTORS

MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: This position requires supervision and monitoring of performance for a group of employees (1 or more full-time employees), including providing input on hiring and disciplinary actions, work objectives, performance evaluations, and realigning work as necessary. The majority of the work performed by employees is semi-complex.

HUMAN COLLABORATION: Interactions and communications may lead to recommendations regarding policy development and implementation. May also evaluate customer satisfaction, develop cooperative relationships, and utilize resources to enhance customer satisfaction.

FREEDOM TO ACT & IMPACT OF ACTIONS: Receives Limited Direction: Employees typically perform assignments based on their judgment, seeking supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with minimal oversight, and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is reviewed periodically, with a moderate impact of actions.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Advanced: This role requires advanced skills and extensive knowledge of the work. The incumbent can manage complex tasks and translate intricate nuances related to job aspects. Recognized by others within the organization for technical depth of knowledge, the potential impact on the organization is comprehensive.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: May assist in gathering data to support recommendations for budget allocations in the functional area. May monitor division or program-level budgets and expenditures.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Work Environment/Locations: Generally free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

Physical Effort Requirements: Sedentary Work - Involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, with a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work primarily involves sitting.

Work Location: Office or similar indoor environment.

Exposures: Individuals who may be hostile or irate; individuals with known violent backgrounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EQUIVALENCY: Associate's degree or 2 years of college in Language or a related field.

OR

Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years of experience in court interpretation, including supervisory experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: State or Federal Court Interpreter Certification or equivalent.
