About the Role

The State of Indiana is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant Trainee to join our team at the Indiana Veterans' Home. As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in providing high-quality patient care while working towards obtaining your CNA certification.

Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and efficient personal care to residents, including bathing, showering, positioning, feeding, transferring, toileting, nail care, hair care, and range of motion.
  • Use recommended safety devices and follow infection control standards.
  • Document care provided and report any unusual behaviors or signs to the nurse.
  • Assist with resident transportation to and from in-facility and out-of-facility appointments.
  • Clean assigned areas and resident equipment/supplies on the unit.
  • Mentor and train new staff/students.
  • Provide 1:1 staffing if needed.
  • Assist with resident activities on and off the unit.
  • Respond to codes and assist as needed.
  • Provide post-mortem care.
Requirements
  • Must be certified as a Nurse Aide within 120 days of employment.
  • Must maintain CNA and first aid certification.
  • Ability to understand and communicate with residents and understand and complete nursing forms.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to provide basic nursing care practices.
  • Ability to use medical equipment within the scope of certification.
  • Ability to provide safe, efficient resident care, following all applicable state and Veterans' Administration rules, IVH policies and procedures, and all HIPAA rules.
