This facility is the largest of the three hospitals within Duke Health, boasting 1,048 patient beds and 65 operating rooms, along with extensive diagnostic and therapeutic resources, including a regional emergency/trauma center and an endo-surgery center.
Position Summary
The Physical Therapist is responsible for delivering physical therapy services to patients who experience impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or alterations in physical function and health status due to various causes. This role also encompasses preventive and wellness services, including health screenings and promotion.
The senior therapist acts as a resource for the team and department, engaging in the orientation of new staff members and participating in educational activities for physical therapy and health-related students. The physical therapist operates within the guidelines established by North Carolina state law.
Key Responsibilities
1. Exhibit and articulate sound clinical reasoning by synthesizing complex evaluation data to identify diagnoses and formulate comprehensive care plans.
2. Collaborate with patients and their families to develop and update tailored care plans that consider the individual's age and lifestyle, establishing measurable short- and long-term goals along with a defined discharge plan.
3. Implement appropriate intervention protocols and adjust care plans as necessary.
4. Discharge patients when goals are achieved or when medical necessity no longer requires intervention, ensuring continuity of care as needed.
5. Maintain productivity standards and collaborate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to enhance team performance.
6. Assess the educational needs of patients and caregivers, initiating timely education relative to age, length of stay, readiness to learn, and emotional status.
7. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care that meets professional and departmental standards.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree or certification in physical therapy is required, with a Master's or Clinical Doctorate in physical therapy preferred.
Experience: No additional experience is required beyond the educational qualifications, although prior experience may be preferred.
Licensure: A current Physical Therapist license in North Carolina is mandatory.
