Banquet Captain Job Description

At Azul Hospitality, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Banquet Captain to join our team. As a Banquet Captain, you will be responsible for overseeing the execution of banquet events, including planning, ordering, set-up, service, and breakdown.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all banquet service operations and events to ensure seamless execution.
  • Assist the Director of Food and Beverage in ensuring that events are on time and adjust as needed.
  • Review Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) at the beginning of each shift to confirm conference rooms are set as contracted and A/V equipment needs are met.
  • Directly supervise, coach, and train banquet service staff.
  • Manage staff shifts and timetables.
  • Develop and provide staff with necessary training, including customer service and serving etiquette.
  • Collaborate with Catering, Sales, Food & Beverage managers, and the culinary team to ensure quality service for all meeting and banquet guests.
  • Attend weekly banquet event order and group resume meetings to ensure all areas are prepared.
  • Communicate with meeting planners to ensure all needs are met and to check for any last-minute instructions or changes.
  • Be aware of all upcoming groups and major conventions over the next 90 days.
  • Read assigned banquet menus and ask if specific items are unclear.
  • Supervise the set-up of all meeting rooms prior to each event.
  • Meet with the culinary team to confirm quantities of food items and timing of food leaving the kitchen.
  • Assist the culinary team as needed with preparation, ordering, and inventorying.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies, equipment, and furniture.
  • Ensure specific needs for buffets, receptions, and meetings are met.
  • Complete all daily administrative tasks.
  • Run the floor and coordinate food and drink service by liaising with the kitchen and service staff.
  • Act as an ambassador at the bar during high-volume hours.
  • Responsible for the proper handling of all equipment, including china, glassware, silverware, linen, and props.
  • Recommend proper maintenance and repair to the maintenance department and ensure proper housekeeping of all function space.
Requirements:
  • High school or equivalent education required.
  • 1-3 years of high-volume banquet service experience required.
  • Hotel/resort banquet experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to serve alcohol.
  • Safe Server Alcohol & Food certification required.
Working Conditions:

The Banquet Captain will work primarily in an indoor environment with moderate temperatures. The position requires standing and exerting well-paced mobility for up to four hours in length. The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. and push/pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. is also required.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership capability, customer relations skills, and be detail-oriented with outstanding organizational and communication skills. Intermediate computer skills and basic computational ability are also required.
