Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Analyst to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. As a GIS Analyst, you will play a critical role in the development, modification, and implementation of geographic information system (GIS) applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning, design, and development of new GIS applications and enhancements to existing applications, working closely with GIS system owners to define data needs.
  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve business systems issues.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of geospatial databases, converting data received from internal and external sources into a format usable in the GIS.
  • Conduct testing of programs and software applications to ensure they will produce the desired information or results, identifying and correcting errors in the code.
  • Perform cost-benefit and return-on-investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Create systems models, specifications, and diagrams.
  • Perform revision, repair, or expansion of existing programs to increase efficiency or adapt to new requirements, implementing updates or patches for existing software applications.
  • Compile and write documentation of program development and subsequent revisions, inserting comments in the coded instructions so others can understand the program.
  • Consult with applications developers and other technical personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, and recommend changes.
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Provide basic user support and assist users in defining and resolving problems in running programs or applications.
  • Create system design proposals, wireframes, and other application development documentation.
  • Confer with team members and clients to ensure successful functioning of newly implemented systems or procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Full-time paid experience in applications programming and/or development specific to geographic information systems (GIS) may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Certification as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) may be substituted for one year of the required education.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment, including computers.
