Role Overview:
As an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care within the emergency department, working under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and document vital signs accurately.
  • Conduct EKG assessments.
  • Initiate cardiac monitoring and promptly inform the RN or physician of any significant findings.
  • Administer oxygen therapy as needed.
  • Perform suctioning procedures, including oral, nasal, and endotracheal.
  • Carry out phlebotomy and establish saline locks.
  • Apply orthopedic devices and basic splints.
  • Assist in sizing crutches and instructing patients on crutch usage.
  • Support the setup of medical equipment for various procedures.
  • Facilitate the safe transport of patients, both stable and monitored, as required.
  • Transport laboratory specimens when necessary.
  • Maintain sterile techniques during procedures and adhere to universal precautions.
  • Assist in the upkeep and organization of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Conduct point-of-care testing as applicable.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and respect their dignity and privacy.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment.
  • May be involved in fluid or medication administration.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:
Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program is essential.

Certifications Required:
Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in the state of practice.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA is also required.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the AHA is preferred for those working in pediatric emergency settings.

Work Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience as an EMT-P is preferred, along with clinical exposure through an EMS Paramedic Training program.

Physical Demands:
This role requires full-body mobility to assist and transport patients, as well as manual dexterity for various tasks. The position involves extensive standing and walking.

Physical Requirements:
Medium Work:
  • Occasionally exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force.
  • Frequently exerting 10 to 25 pounds of force.
  • Constantly exerting up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

Personal Protective Equipment:
Adhere to standard precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as necessary.
