Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Trauma Lead Registered Nurse to join our team at HCA Capital Division. As a Trauma Lead Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for coordinating and triaging incoming trauma patients, evaluating admission consultations, and managing care with primary trauma surgeons.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to trauma bays and travel with patients to CT, OR, ICU as needed
  • Coordinate and triage incoming trauma patients
  • Review and evaluate all activations for triage level appropriateness
  • Evaluate admission consultations
  • Manage care with primary trauma surgeons
  • Responsible for documentation compliance
  • Respond to in-house trauma patients' critical needs
  • Facilitate psychosocial support
  • Mentor trauma nurse responders
  • Assist in training and in-servicing needs
  • Attend daily multidisciplinary rounds
  • Identify and report trauma audit filters
  • Participate in scholarly activities
  • Function as clinical liaison for prehospital partners
  • Facilitate trauma bay time outs and debriefings in collaboration with primary surgeons
  • Proactively lead performance improvement activities, interpret data, and suggest and implement changes based on performance
  • Track trauma quality indicators by patient and prepare case write-ups for presentation at Performance Improvement Patient Safety (PIPS) reviews and track decision and action items taken
  • Participate in PIPS process and assist and track or perform needed activities through to loop closure
  • Participate in trauma center survey preparation for State and American College of Surgeons (ACS) and see activities through to completion
  • Participate and lecture in trauma-related education such as inservices, TNCC, and other department-driven courses
  • Participate in trauma-related research
  • Participate in duties assigned by the director of trauma services
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • BSN preferred
  • Licensed in the State of Virginia as a registered nurse or has compact license
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Required - 3-5 years of critical care trauma or emergency nursing experience
