We are looking for a meticulous and committed Judicial Assistant to become part of the Summit County Justice Court. This role involves a range of entry-level clerical, secretarial, and routine administrative tasks that are essential for the seamless functioning of the court. The ideal candidate will significantly contribute to the timely execution and maintenance of the necessary processes, actions, and procedures associated with the office. Depending on qualifications and experience, candidates may be appointed as Judicial Assistant I, II, or III. SALARY RANGE

Judicial Assistant I - $27.44 hourly

Judicial Assistant II - $21.05 - $29.47 hourly

Judicial Assistant III - $22.30 - $31.24 hourly

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma; AND
  • One (1) year of office experience or coursework focused on secretarial skills in general office procedures, preferably in a court or legal environment; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform duties at the front counter under close to general supervision, handling tasks that are less complex than those expected at the full Judicial Assistant performance level.
  • Engage in demanding customer interactions, providing a variety of customer service functions such as greeting visitors, answering inquiries, directing questions, and assisting the public with court-related matters.
  • Act as a receptionist, managing telephone calls and helping the public resolve questions regarding processes and paperwork; provide information about court procedures and schedules, and arrange appointments.
  • Receive, docket, and file incoming citations, information, and complaints; sort and process mail under strict guidelines as approved by the Justice Court Judge and directed by other Judicial Assistants. Administer fines according to the bail schedule, track payments made through the mail, and process small claims case filings while maintaining a tickler file and tracking system for payments and probation terms.
  • Prepare legal documents such as summons, failure to appear notices, late notices, warrants, bench warrants, and Orders to Show Cause, while accepting payments for bail forfeitures and fines, and issuing receipts. Docket and file documents, and prepare and update case files prior to court hearings.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
