Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for administering nursing care, medications, and treatments to clients, as well as educating them on healthy lifestyle choices and medication management. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer nursing care, medications, and treatments to clients
  • Educate clients on healthy lifestyle choices and medication management
  • Schedule and coordinate medical appointments for clients
  • Routinely consult with psychiatrists regarding treatment and medications
  • Support psychiatrists by scheduling weekly appointments and forwarding necessary documentation
  • Coordinate and perform weekly blood draws for clients
  • Order, receive, reconcile, and deliver medical supplies and medications
  • Coordinate with pharmacy on medication insurance authorization requests and patient assistance programs
  • Monitor, reconcile, and approve pharmacy and lab invoicing
  • Act as liaison with pharmacy and lab personnel
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, in-service training, and other meetings as scheduled
  • Observe and report changes in client conditions and behavior to the treatment team
  • Assist in personnel actions, such as recruitment, training, evaluations, and discipline for indirect reporting personnel
  • Provide training to treatment team staff on nursing-related matters
  • Complete and maintain all required documentation, including electronic records
Requirements:
  • Current CA RN license
  • BLS certification
  • BSN preferred
  • Current licensure by the California State Board in Nursing
  • Experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
  • Experience with the management of aggressive and assaultive behavior
  • Completion of clinical rotation in Psychiatric Nursing
  • Completion of curriculum Pharmacology Class
  • Experience working in a residential facility is a plus
  • Knowledge of all medications, with emphasis on psychiatric medications
  • Basic understanding of legal aspects of mental health, including confidentiality, probable cause hearings, and patients' rights
  • Ability to handle encounters with clients who may be unstable, angry, hostile, agitated, or intoxicated
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to work with adult patients
  • Ability to work independently, use good judgment, and remain calm in crisis situations
Additional Requirements:
  • Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance
  • Valid California Driver's license
  • TB clearance
  • Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier
  • Fire and Safety Training
  • First Aid Training Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI)
