Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as an Optometry Clinic Assistant at the Indian Health Service. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing exceptional patient care and support to our healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide receptionist and clerical support to the Optometry Clinic, including scheduling patients, answering phone calls, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist optometrists with advanced optical work, including lens and frame selection, spectacle measurements, and eye glass repairs.
  • Perform patient assessments, including case history, chief complaint, and preparation of eye wear.
  • Conduct ancillary testing as indicated and provide patient education on optical ocular disease conditions and proper care and wear of eyeglasses and other optical wear.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as maintaining files, preparing mail, and using computer software to manage patient information.
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service, performing tasks such as performing tests requested by an optometrist, understanding the protocol of the test, verifying glasses prescriptions, and repairing glasses.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and procedures, with the ability to learn and apply new skills and knowledge.
Working Conditions

This position is located at the Little Shell Service Unit at Great Falls, MT and reports to the Supervisory Optometrist. The incumbent will work in a fast-paced clinical environment, interacting with patients, healthcare professionals, and other staff members. The position requires the ability to work in a team environment, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
