Aquatic Ecologist Role at GEI Consultants

GEI Consultants is seeking a highly skilled Malacology Specialist/Aquatic Ecologist to join our team. As an integral part of our Aquatic Ecology practice, you will play a key role in supporting the growth and development of our freshwater mussel-focused projects.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in scoping, managing, and implementing various freshwater mussel-related projects, with a strong emphasis on safety protocols. This full-time position is based in one of our offices in Green Bay, Milwaukee, Madison, WI, or Duluth, MN.

About the Role:
  • Manage diverse freshwater mussel-focused projects, including habitat restoration plans, water quality improvement plans, and natural resource field investigations.
  • Develop survey plans for native mussel species in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota.
  • Coordinate and lead field teams in aquatic ecosystem and water quality assessments.
  • Oversee surveys and dives as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Identify, measure, and document collected mussel species for project reporting purposes.

This role requires excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong knowledge of freshwater mussel identification and survey protocols is essential, along with experience with environmental permitting and project management.
