Geotechnical Lead Engineer

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is in search of a Geotechnical Lead Engineer to enhance our Power and Renewables divisions. The ideal candidate will integrate into a vibrant geotechnical engineering team, contributing to the management and execution of geotechnical assessments and designs pertinent to renewable energy initiatives, substations, transmission lines, and other energy-related projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop proposals and cost assessments for geotechnical evaluations and associated design tasks.
  • Engage in geotechnical site assessments, assign laboratory tests, analyze field and laboratory data, and compile investigation reports.
  • Interpret and evaluate geotechnical data to determine the type, classification, and engineering properties of materials.
  • Conduct comprehensive geotechnical engineering analyses, including seepage, slope stability, bearing capacity, settlement, rotational stiffness, and liquefaction.
  • Oversee, mentor, and train junior geotechnical personnel.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, testing methodologies, and civil/geotechnical design and construction practices. Experience in energy-related projects is a plus.
  • Proficient in conducting and managing geotechnical investigations and documentation, with excellent technical writing abilities.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring geotechnical teams.
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly in MS Office, with familiarity in geotechnical software such as gINT, GeoStudio, LPile, and MFAD being beneficial.
  • Exceptional technical, communication, and interpersonal skills, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel and work in field conditions for extended periods, adaptable to various weather and terrain challenges.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality in all work outputs.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, with experience in client interactions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and workload efficiently, prioritizing tasks effectively.
