Job Summary

The Certified Surgical Technician will assist surgeons and registered nurses in the operating room, ensuring a sterile environment and providing essential support during procedures. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision of quality patient care, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Prepare and maintain a sterile field, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
  • Pass instruments to surgeons and assistants during procedures, maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Identify and prioritize individual patient care needs, collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Comply with required standards for patient positioning, skin preparation, counting, and side-site management.
  • Assist with draping, preparing, and editing the surgeon's preference list to ensure quality care.
  • Collect specimens as directed by the surgeon, identifying the origin of each specimen to the RN.
  • Assure that all biohazard material is handled and disposed of properly, using universal precautions.
  • Keep accurate counts of all sutures, sharps, soft goods, and instruments.
Requirements
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Two years of experience in a multi-disciplined OR in an acute care hospital setting (preferred).
