Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Sonographer Reg to join our team at Wellstar Health System, Inc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases.
  • Assist with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams provided by the department per department protocols.
  • Set up equipment to provide imaging service and position patients for procedures.
  • Verify proper clinician orders for procedures and obtain complete clinical histories, gather examination data, and assess for contraindicating conditions.
  • Review ultrasound images for clinically acceptable results and release patients.
  • Respond to emergency situations and maintain life support equipment.
  • Assist other technologists in all modalities when needed.
  • Observe patient conditions and properly evaluate situations when physician intervention is necessary.
  • Verify correct patient identity using 2 unique identifiers prior to performing procedures.
  • Ensure patient privacy and comfort are accommodated and maintain patient dignity throughout exams/procedures.
  • Organize schedules, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
  • Follow physicians' instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
  • Use critical thinking skills and dialog with patients/families.
  • Ask clarifying questions and seek clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understand, demonstrate, and document preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate and understand pre-and-post procedural care.
  • Prep patients for procedures and demonstrate and understand sterile technique.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Provide patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
  • Required documentation is concise, legible, and includes precise terminology.
  • Read email each day scheduled to work and follow through with assignments.
  • Complete mandatory departmental and Hospital-wide education without prompting.
  • Consistently produce acceptable images, as evidenced by provider feedback and quality audits.
  • Ensure equipment is fully operational prior to each use by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Send all studies to PACS immediately after completion, print CDs as needed.
  • Complete all studies in RIS before completing in PACS.
  • Print completed log sheets from teleradiography and submit to Radiologists, if applicable.
  • Perform and maintain quality control logs for probe disinfection and follow infection control policies.
  • Restock linens and supplies, and maintain the department in clean and orderly condition.
  • Transport patients, position patients, and help them on and off procedure tables.
  • Perform patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
  • Apply supportive and immobilization devices and equipment, if needed.
  • Willingly lend knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available.
  • Perform routine duties of clerical and support personnel in accordance with procedure when warranted to ensure continuity and quality of services.
  • Keep supervisors informed on all responsibilities on an ongoing basis, ensuring prompt notification in the event of problems or potential problems.
  • Maintain an individual productivity rate equal to other coworkers.
  • Ability to operate all workstations associated with the US department.
  • Ability to push/retrieve images from the Ultrasound console to PACS.
  • Maintain Joint Commission standards and any other regulatory agency standards.
  • Take call when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Sonography Program.
  • Registered Medical Sonographer or ARRT Sonography.
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor.
