Job Summary and Qualifications

We are seeking a Registered Nurse with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care in our Open Heart Surgery department. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of care.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.

In this role, you will perform a range of tasks, including maintaining a safe and therapeutic operating room environment, implementing and directing care using the nursing process, and evaluating the effectiveness of the nursing process.

You will also provide emotional support to patients and their families, delegate tasks to other caregivers as needed, and participate in initiatives to improve surgical services.

Apart from your clinical expertise, you will also need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work effectively in a team environment, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

What You Will Do In This Role:
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic OR environment
  • Implement and direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual OR patients
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process
  • Provide emotional support of the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding health care
  • Delegate tasks to the appropriate caregiver
  • Participate in Surgical Services specific initiatives and process improvement
  • Promote a supportive OR environment
  • Provide supervision of new employees, patient care assistants, vocational nurses, nurse technicians, student nurses and/or nurse externs
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse
  • Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
