Key Responsibilities:
1. Develops costume craft and dye projects tailored for OSF's live or digital productions by:
2. Collaborating with Lead Craft/Dyers and Costume Project Managers to interpret the vision and style set forth by the costume designer.
3. Draping and drafting patterns for various costume elements.
4. Cutting and assembling a variety of craft materials, including but not limited to paper, fabric, leather, and other components.
5. Constructing, altering, dyeing, and painting craft items as needed.
6. Creating prototypes and samples for review and approval.
7. Researching and developing materials and techniques in partnership with Lead Craft/Dyers.
8. Integrating multi-disciplinary elements such as prop-costumes and lighting-costumes.
9. Assisting Lead Craft/Dyers with fittings and measurements for costume accuracy.
10. Supporting Lead Craft/Dyers in planning and prioritizing tasks effectively.
11. Upholding and promoting OSF's mission and values by:
a. Demonstrating inclusive practices and fostering a sense of belonging.
b. Maintaining a safe and respectful workplace.
c. Identifying and addressing micro-aggressions and othering behaviors.
12. Adhering to OSF's Company Handbook, safety protocols, and departmental guidelines.
13. Mentoring junior staff members as needed.
14. Participating in the upkeep and organization of costume shop spaces and equipment.
15. Assisting with the cleaning of garments and accessories as required.
16. Restocking garments and accessories post-production activities.
17. Attending all relevant meetings and safety training sessions.
Additional Responsibilities:
18. Assisting with costume rentals and repairs.
19. Managing inventory and restocking shop supplies.
20. Transporting supplies as necessary between designated locations.
21. Performing other duties as assigned by costume department management.
Supervision:
Reports to the Costume Director, Associate Costume Director, and Costume Project Managers.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in the construction or enhancement of costume elements such as hats, jewelry, and leather goods.
Skills:
Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively. Proficient in drafting and altering patterns, cutting materials, and using various tools and techniques for costume creation. Knowledgeable in safety standards for production environments.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds, with the capacity to stand or sit for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with global garment and costume history and experience in mentoring or teaching others.
Compensation:
Hourly rate of $29.35 USD, non-exempt.
