Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Automotive Technician II to join our team at the California Highway Patrol. As an Automotive Technician II, you will be responsible for reviewing vehicle defect reports, inspecting and verifying the need for repairs, and maintaining all required vehicle maintenance records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review vehicle defect reports and inspect vehicles to determine the need for repairs
  • Verify the accuracy of repair estimates and ensure that all necessary repairs are completed
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of vehicle maintenance and repairs
  • Perform minor repairs and services on vehicles as needed
  • Mount, balance, and change tires, and maintain an adequate supply of mounted tires
  • Clean vehicle interiors, trunks, and engine compartments, and ensure that vehicle trunks are organized and properly stocked
  • Ensure that the automotive shop and office are clean and orderly
  • Provide regular updates on fleet status to the Administrative Lieutenant and Administrative Sergeant
  • Coordinate the exchange of vehicles with Fleet Operations Section and arrange for transport of vehicles to and from Fleet Operations Section
  • Maintain proper inventory and records of spare parts, tires, and petroleum products
  • Maintain required stocks of gasoline, oil, and propane, and ensure that parts and supplies usage is promptly and accurately entered into departmental databases
  • Ensure that spare parts, tires, tools, and other equipment are secure and accounted for
  • Obtain bids and sell surplus tires, parts, and surveyed vehicles as necessary
  • Coordinate repair of automotive service equipment as necessary
  • Prepare parts for shipment
  • Assist with installation and removal of MVARS/RADAR and other equipment
Requirements
  • A valid California Driver's License (CDL) is required
  • A background investigation and medical clearance are required prior to hire
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software
