POSITION SUMMARY:


The AMD server team is in search of a performance engineer to conduct analysis and comparisons of AMD EPYC platforms against various competitive systems.

By executing and evaluating diverse workloads, the selected candidate will pinpoint opportunities for performance enhancements, identify technological trends, and gain a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape in System on Chip (SoC) technology.

Our EPYC architecture represents a significant advancement for both client and server platforms. This role is integral to a rapidly expanding team focused on developing new core competencies within the AMD server division.

At AMD, we emphasize high-performance data processing and computing, ensuring substantial performance leadership and improvements from generation to generation. This team is dedicated to creating leading server CPU products that deliver competitive performance and exceptional quality. CANDIDATE PROFILE:


We are seeking an individual who is passionate about achieving optimal performance on server platforms and consistently outperforming the competition.

The ideal candidate will be a technical contributor focused on SoC Performance, capable of executing and analyzing complex workloads, conducting performance investigations, characterizing and debugging issues, and influencing future server SOC microarchitecture design.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct competitive analysis of server performance

Perform execution and analysis of performance metrics on both AMD and non-AMD platforms

Raise awareness of AMD's performance standing in comparison to competitors

Communicate the performance positioning of EPYC SoC platforms to both technical and non-technical audiences within AMD

Utilize knowledge of computer architecture and micro-architecture to diagnose performance challenges

Explore performance opportunities within our server architecture, particularly concerning memory hierarchy, storage systems, scheduling, and I/O devices

Collaborate on workload characterization, bottleneck analysis, and performance capabilities including low latency, throughput, IOPS, burst, and sustained performance/power metrics

Develop micro-benchmarks to analyze the performance characteristics of a SoC

Create optimized benchmark binaries across competitive platforms

Enhance and innovate tools for performance analysis and regression testing

Engage in a highly collaborative environment with engineers across multiple organizations

Assist in customer performance investigations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Architecture, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field

8+ years of experience in system architecture and performance analysis

Familiarity with the competitive landscape, feature specifications, and industry trends in both server and client domains

Experience with various server vendors/SoC platforms (AMD, Intel, ARM, Ampere)

In-depth understanding of computer architecture/microarchitecture, software, and hardware relevant to performance engineering

Experience with industry-standard benchmarks such as SPEC CPU2017, SpecJBB, Stream, HPL, FIO, etc.

Proficiency in creating benchmarks or other performance testing tools

Experience in analyzing computer workloads

Solid understanding of Linux performance analysis tools and methodologies

Experience with Linux kernel internals and system programming

Strong programming skills in C, C++, and scripting languages (Bash, Python)

Expertise in working with large codebases, utilizing appropriate math libraries and optimization flags, and engaging with various compilers, MPI libraries, and math libraries

Experience with distributed source control systems, such as Git

Familiarity with GPU as an accelerator

Experience with hardware performance counters (PMU) and binary instrumentation tools

Prior experience in I/O subsystem architecture, I/O interconnects, and performance analysis and optimization

Background in server applications and system/software debugging

Experience in developing and utilizing computer system performance models

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

Compensation:
