Industrial Engineering Co-op/Intern

This job description reflects potential openings for the Co-op/Internship Session (January - April). This is a general job description and represents multiple openings in various departments. American Honda Motor Co Inc offers both single and multi-semester co-ops and internships. College students must apply to the requisition pertaining to their major and semester of interest.

Job Responsibilities

As an Industrial Engineering Co-op/Intern at American Honda Motor Co Inc, you will be tasked with hands-on, project-based work relevant to your department of placement's current needs. This means no coffee runs or stereotypical intern duties. Projects may be as large as developing a new test, designing systems, traveling to suppliers, or serving as a project manager. In addition to the full-time associate work that our Co-ops/Interns are given the access to work on, you will be invited to participate in a variety of paid work events and experiences offered by the American Honda Motor Co Inc Co-op and Internship program team. These events include, but are not limited to:

  • Q&A sessions with high-level associates
  • Tours of various American Honda Motor Co Inc facilities
  • Social events
  • Volunteer opportunities

Work Environments and Duties

The below descriptions reflect potential environments and duties within our various Industrial Engineering Co-op/Intern positions that we offer. Work environments and projects may include but are not limited to:

Manufacturing
  • Focus on equipment, process, quality, and new model activities related to the department of placement
  • Project management
  • Problem analysis
  • Production support
  • Investigating new technologies and implementing countermeasures
Quality
  • Learning and performing vehicle testing
  • Conducting tests for chassis, brakes, controls, bonnet, trunk, and/or door systems
  • Testing procedures and test fixtures
  • New model development, drawing, studying, layouts, and design change requests
  • Investigating and providing countermeasures for mass production design-related issues
  • Warranty data trend analysis
  • Re-creating problem failures to determine root cause, countermeasure development, and confirmation testing
Purchasing
  • Completing supplier process capabilities assessments
  • Problem reporting and analysis
  • Countermeasure implementation
  • Investigating suspect part issues
  • Approving part changes
  • Approving/verifying supplier countermeasures and issues trouble reports
  • Various daily tasks such as attending meetings, working on project activities, problem analysis, writing technical reports, troubleshooting manufacturing or quality problems, and communication to internal/external customers
Facilities
  • Updating and documenting CAD drawings of existing infrastructure
  • Analyzing and designing existing sanitation, HVAC, and building pressure systems
  • Developing short and long-term solutions to problems found
  • Designing modifications of existing facilities structures
  • Updating mechanical engineering specifications and standards
  • Reviewing electrical drawings
  • Learning and understanding plant power infrastructure
  • Verifying electrical panel schedules and updating high-bay light locations
Tooling/Equipment Design
  • Designing manufacturing equipment and tooling in 2D and 3D CAD systems
  • Determining equipment electrical hardware, software (PLC, HMI, etc.), and safety requirements, and appropriate design
  • Managing a schedule and tracking daily process
  • Investigating and troubleshooting problems during installation and manufacturing
Requirements

Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • General Engineering Coursework
  • Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA or higher (You will be required to provide your current transcript)
  • Class status - Sophomore (by credit hour) or above
  • Availability to work a minimum of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week
  • Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program studying Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Ability to provide own transportation to and from work each day
  • Desired: AutoCad, CATIA, Manufacturing related coursework
