Excavator Operator Job Summary

Branch Highways is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will operate power shovels and other heavy equipment to excavate and move earth and other materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate power shovels and other heavy equipment to excavate and move earth and other materials
  • Grade to line and grade
  • Service and make normal operating adjustments to equipment
  • Operate on track or rubber-tired equipment, including gradall or wrist-o-twist type equipment
  • Complete minor repairs
  • Routine cleaning of equipment
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of construction techniques
  • 1 to 3 years of excavator operating experience
  • Experience with storm & utility construction
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Well-versed in VDOT and local municipality standards and specifications
Work Environment:

The Excavator Operator will work in a fast-paced construction environment, often in outdoor settings. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and stand for long periods of time.

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to stand, talk and hear
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell

This is a full-time position, typically involving 40+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
