Description

Under general oversight, the role is designed to execute safety and security law enforcement duties involving crime detection, prevention, and investigation. The individual operates at a proficient level to carry out law enforcement responsibilities and is tasked with safeguarding the lives and property of all community members. Specific duties are assigned by a Police Sergeant or superior Officer, however, the individual must exercise significant independent judgment and initiative in addressing routine and emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conducts patrols in designated areas on foot or by vehicle; responds to and assists with emergency calls; addresses citizen complaints and general inquiries.

2. Safeguards the lives and property of all community members; provides first aid to injured or distressed individuals; offers assistance to stranded motorists.

3. Searches for and apprehends offenders; transports suspects, criminals, and detainees to detention facilities and court proceedings.

4. Investigates missing persons and stolen property; probes suspected illegal activities; prepares legal documents; testifies and presents evidence in court.

5. Analyzes crime scenes and accidents; administers breathalyzer tests; collects and preserves evidence; prepares legal documents; testifies and presents evidence in court.

6. Enforces traffic regulations and parking laws; issues and clarifies citations for violations.

7. Directs traffic and assists pedestrians at intersections; escorts processions and events.

8. Promotes crime prevention through community engagement; encourages citizens to report criminal activities.

9. Prepares for legal proceedings and provides testimony during depositions and hearings.

10. Reviews and inspects public establishments for compliance with laws governing alcohol consumption and traffic regulations.

11. Compiles various daily and periodic reports and departmental forms; maintains logs; completes documentation; prepares violation reports.

12. Assists with disaster preparedness and emergency response; manages evacuation traffic.

13. Supports animal control services.

14. Participates in training sessions and seminars as required; aids in the training of new Officers.

Additional Responsibilities

Performs related duties as assigned when such tasks are logical and appropriate for the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a High School Diploma or GED.

Requires a valid Florida Driver's License upon hiring.

Requires Florida Department of Law Enforcement Certification. Candidates currently enrolled in Florida Law Enforcement Certification training may be considered, provided they obtain certification within a specified timeframe.

Important Note: Applicants must account for all periods of employment history for at least the last ten (10) years.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of a Law Enforcement Officer, tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving a combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, running, and climbing, which may require lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling heavy objects (200+ pounds) in the event of pursuing and subduing a resisting suspect. Some tasks may expose the individual to disagreeable elements including, but not limited to, inclement weather, loud noise, and potential hazards. Standard body gear and equipment are utilized to ensure the safety of the officer and the community.
