POSITION SUMMARY:

Deliver educational activities and experiences tailored for students with special needs, aimed at fostering their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. Adapt or create curricula and prepare lesson plans and instructional materials suited to the diverse abilities of students. Work in various capacities, including self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant settings as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engage in IEP meetings, including behavior management strategies, functional behavior assessments, placement decisions, and annual reviews.

Establish and maintain a classroom atmosphere that promotes effective learning, employing diverse teaching methods and instructional techniques that cater to the maturity, interests, and needs of students.

Conduct appropriate diagnostic assessments, identify student strengths, and regularly monitor academic progress.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive records as mandated by law and district policies.

Communicate with parents on an individual or small group basis to discuss student progress.

Collaborate with relevant professional staff regarding a student's educational plan.

Perform all other duties as assigned to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor's degree or higher is required.

A minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Special Education General Curriculum & all five content areas (currently GACE Tests 081/088 for P-8). High School requires Special Education General Curriculum and content-specific assessments.
