Position Summary
The Railroad Commission of Texas, recognized globally for its leadership in oil and gas regulation, is seeking a qualified Technical Staff member to assess oilfield operations within the Corpus Christi District Office, specifically in the Field Operations Section of the Oil and Gas Division. Key responsibilities include conducting advanced technical evaluations and administrative reporting related to drilling, production, and transportation activities in the oil and gas sector. Additional tasks involve performing inspections, conducting surveys, and analyzing engineering and geological data. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain insights into contemporary oil and gas operations, regulatory frameworks, and drilling methodologies.
Core Responsibilities
- Review and allocate daily industry activity notifications to Field Inspectors.
- Assess Field Inspector reports for adherence to Commission regulations.
- Draft Operator Notice of Violation letters for District Management review.
- Initiate follow-up inspections for non-compliant leases/facilities.
- Enforce actions such as pipeline severances and well seal-ins for rule violations.
- Prepare findings for operator violations for submission to the Austin Office.
- Serve as a resource witness during Oil and Gas Enforcement Hearings.
- Collaborate with Industry Technical Staff on compliance matters.
- Compile and submit field inspection reports using Oracle and Microsoft Office tools.
- Maintain organized and timely documentation of oil and gas field operations.
- Communicate technical information effectively to industry personnel and the public.
- Conduct field inspections in various weather conditions, carrying necessary safety equipment.
- Review and approve alternative casing and well plugging procedures.
- Investigate reported bradenhead pressure issues and water quality complaints.
- Evaluate fluid level tests to safeguard the State's water quality.
- Perform additional related tasks as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, or a related scientific field from an accredited institution, or an Associate's degree with two years of relevant experience.
- At least one year of experience related to the field of study or job assignment.
- Experience in oilfield operations is advantageous.
- Familiarity with oil and gas regulatory functions and the Railroad Commission's policies.
- Proficient in advanced mathematics and engineering principles.
- Skilled in conducting inspections and investigations professionally.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid Texas Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Work Schedule and Telework
Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexible schedules and telework options may be available based on operational needs.
