About the Role

G&W Electric Co is seeking an Electrical Power Systems Engineer II to join our team in New Product Development. This exciting opportunity will drive innovation and excellence in electrical power grid solutions.

Job Description

  • Support product realization through cross-functional team collaboration, ensuring timely completion of projects according to schedules.
  • Assist with development of project schedules, coordination, and management, guaranteeing seamless project execution.
  • Participate in the preparation of project budgets, helping ensure financial feasibility.
  • Contribute to the completion of the Product Realization Stage Gate Requirements, driving projects forward.
  • Manage system-level design requirements for Medium Voltage switchgear per specifications and standards, minimizing variation and promoting error-proof assembly.
  • Responsible for creating engineering test plans for areas of design responsibility, ensuring thorough testing.
  • Construct and test prototype components or assemblies as required in the development and approval process.
  • Perform pre-test calculations and review test data in relation to calculations and standards, providing accurate results.
  • Apply engineering analysis in designing new products and their subcomponents, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Investigate and resolve issues with new and existing products through troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation of processes, material requirements, test results, and project activities as necessary.
  • Interface with purchasing and vendors to select and approve component parts and assemblies.
  • Offer Engineering support to Sales/Marketing and Manufacturing on new and existing products and processes, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Promptly direct supporting personnel, such as Associate Engineers, Designers, and Technicians, ensuring effective task allocation.
  • Maintain established procedures for creating and updating CAD databases and libraries, guaranteeing efficiency.
  • Participate in reviewing engineering drawings prior to release to manufacture, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Verify that selected parts and processes meet project and company goals for cost efficiency and reliability.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management, adapting to changing priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, emphasizing theoretical foundations and practical application.
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in Engineering design and/or development, encompassing:
    • Familiarity with 3D parametric modeling software.
    • Hands-on experience working on complex, technically demanding projects, driven by innovative thinking.
    • Understanding of the new product development Stage Gate Process, ensuring structured project progression.
    • Able to communicate effectively; prepare presentations, update reports, and lead project meetings.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in key areas:
    • Motor operators, current sensing, voltage sensing, grounding effects, and voltage surges.
    • Analog and digital circuit board design, understanding electrical principles.
  • Adept at utilizing small hand tools and power tools, including soldering irons.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided software, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with SPICE software or equivalents, ensuring proficiency in circuit simulation.
  • Able to compose technical documents like test reports, engineering standards, and technical papers.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical standards, adhering to industry best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in ProE/Creo and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with medium/high-voltage electrical power systems would be beneficial.
  • A history of creativity, innovation, and initiative, with a self-driven approach to learning new methodologies.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $71,200 – $92,600 annually, based on skills, experience, and qualifications.

The position is eligible for participation in our Quarterly Incentive Pay Program, recognizing outstanding contributions.
