Job Title: Respiratory Therapist - Pediatric Transport Specialist

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Pediatric Transport Team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our team, you will provide exceptional respiratory care to critically ill or injured infants and children during interfacility transports.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain pertinent patient information and histories, including risk factors and implications for problems, and incorporate this into the plan of care.
  • Perform physical examinations related to respiratory practice and formulate differential diagnoses and plans of care in collaboration with transport RNs and Medical Control Physicians (MCPs).
  • Recognize and treat changes in clinical situations, including life-threatening conditions, and implement changes to the transport plan of care based on standing transport protocols and MCP recommendations.
  • Exercise independent judgment in situations when sudden clinical changes occur and understand and implement necessary interventions and their expected outcomes based on transport protocols and MCP recommendations.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated for identification and management of problems, including airway management, needle aspiration of pleural space, interpretation of laboratory and radiographic data, intraosseous insertion, spinal immobilization, trauma primary and secondary assessment/management, blood drawing, and insertion of peripheral IVs.
  • Provide clinical management for resuscitation, with independent manner per protocol, of neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent patients, including necessary pharmacological support during interfacility transports.
  • Maintain ongoing monitoring, assessment, and appropriate interventions in accordance with standing protocols and orders while in transit, at referring and receiving facilities, and document accurately on all transport documentation according to department guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of Illinois.
  • 1-2 years of experience in pediatric respiratory care, preferably in a critical care setting.
  • Knowledge of pediatric advanced life support (PALS) and neonatal resuscitation (NRP) protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Compensation: The estimated salary for this position is $44.18 - $66.45 per hour, based on location and qualifications.
