POSITION SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse serves as a clinical expert who orchestrates and implements patient care tailored to the specific age demographics of the patient population within the designated units. This role ensures that high-quality care is delivered efficiently and safely, adhering to the established standards of care. The nurse exemplifies performance that aligns with the mission, philosophy, and objectives of both the unit and the organization. Demonstrates effectiveness and quality in work habits and clinical practices while treating colleagues, physicians, patients, and families with respect and consideration.
RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Possession of a current New Mexico RN license or a valid Compact state license. BLS Certification is mandatory or must be obtained within two weeks of employment. All other necessary certifications must be secured within six months of the hire date. If the nurse possesses the required certifications at the time of employment, they must maintain them without a grace period for renewal. (Refer to the Required Department Certification List provided at the end of this document.)
SKILLS:
- Up-to-date knowledge and skills relevant to the age/type of patient population served.
- Awareness and sensitivity to patients' rights in the provision of care.
- Effective communication in a clear and concise manner, appropriate to the developmental stage of the patient.
EXPERIENCE:
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
- Reports to: Patient Care Director or Manager.
ENVIRONMENT:
- Bloodborne pathogen C (Operating Room, PACU, Labor & Delivery);
- Bloodborne pathogen B (other Patient Care areas). Exposure to infectious diseases and x-rays.
The work environment is clean, well-lit, and ventilated, adhering to smoke-free standards. The role may involve stressful professional interactions. Working hours are variable, requiring flexibility due to unexpected schedule changes and emergencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position necessitates the ability to manage emergency or crisis situations, as well as prolonged periods of standing and walking. Heavy physical effort is required to position, push, and/or transfer patients or equipment and supplies. The role also demands considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Ability to assess distance and spatial relationships, peripheral vision, and distinguish different colors is essential. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal or correctable limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination are required.
