PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The individual in this role operates within a clean, well-lit, temperature-controlled, and well-ventilated environment. This position necessitates interaction with controlled substances and various pharmaceutical products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- In the absence of the Pharmacy Manager, acts as the on-duty supervisor of the pharmacy department, ensuring that all critical functions of the pharmacy operations are effectively upheld.
- Provides oversight and direction for all support personnel within the pharmacy department.
- Offers constructive feedback regarding the performance of support staff to the Pharmacy Manager.
- Implements staff schedules for the pharmacy location.
- Serves as the primary advocate for customer care, ensuring that service standards are upheld by all pharmacy staff.
- Supports company safety protocols and communicates any necessary equipment repairs or maintenance requirements.
- Ensures the completion and maintenance of records and reports as mandated by regulations or the Pharmacy Manager, Pharmacy Operations Manager, and/or corporate policies.
- Facilitates the training of all personnel at the pharmacy location and recommends training interventions to the Store Manager and/or Pharmacy Manager.
- Collaborates with the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacy Operations Manager to develop and implement operational and efficiency enhancement initiatives for the pharmacy.
- Works closely with the Store Manager, Pharmacy Manager, and pharmacy staff to identify, develop, and execute marketing strategies to boost pharmacy sales.
- Monitors the adjudication of third-party claims, following up as necessary to ensure timely payment; identifies issues within third-party systems and reports them to the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacy Operations Manager.
- In conjunction with the Store Manager, Pharmacy Manager, and Pharmacy Operations Manager, ensures compliance with all company policies, procedures, and practices by pharmacy personnel.
- Oversees pharmacy inventory and manages inventory purchasing and return processes.
- Ensures adherence to all state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy operations.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Store Manager, or Pharmacy Operations Manager.
- Accurate dispensing of prescription medications.
- Operation of the claims adjudication system.
- Patient counseling and health advocacy.
- Acting as a liaison with patients, prescribers, and other entities requesting pharmacy services.
- Making clinical decisions regarding each prescription presented, including checks for drug interactions, disease-state considerations, allergy profiles, dosage, strength, and quantity.
- Preparing and dispensing medications in full compliance with physician orders and applicable laws.
- Ability to work for extended periods without assistance, often standing on a concrete floor.
- Capability to reach and retrieve medications from various heights.
- Stocking responsibilities require bending, stretching, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Effective communication with physicians, nurses, and patients.
- Counseling patients on the proper use of medications, over-the-counter products, durable medical equipment, and other healthcare needs, including potential side effects and precautions.

Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Associates.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited pharmacy college with a Bachelor's or advanced degree.
- Currently holds a valid pharmacist license in the state of practice.
- Proven competence in effective communication and customer relations.
- Ability to fill Medicaid and Medicare prescriptions without restrictions.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to communicate effectively with customers, associates, healthcare professionals, and the community.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule in a dynamic retail environment.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities and provide direction to associates.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Performance in this role requires the ability to walk, stoop, speak, write, and operate office equipment, including computers and telephones.
Some minor lifting (less than 25 lbs.) is required. The employee will be required to stand for extended periods during working hours.
