Job Title: Lecturer, CC (Korean)

University of Hawai'i, Kapi'olani Community College, is seeking a part-time lecturer in Korean language and literature. The successful candidate will teach courses in Korean language and culture, prepare course syllabi, and assess student learning.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses in Korean language and culture;
  • Prepare course syllabi and reports related to teaching and student progress;
  • Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;
  • Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;
  • Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;
  • Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week).
Qualifications:
  • Functionally native oral and written fluency in Korean, the ability to communicate in English, and one of the following:
  • Master's degree in Korean (language or literature);
  • Master's degree in Korean as a Second Language;
  • Master's degree in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Korean;
  • Master's degree in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience at the community college level;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community college students;
  • Work experience related to the course to be taught;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively;
  • Familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction.
