Position Overview

The Oncology Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care through comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Conducts thorough assessments and analyzes relevant data regarding the patient's health status to establish diagnoses and identify issues.
    • a) Performs both primary and secondary assessments, ensuring accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.
    • b) Records any modifications or omissions in the established care plan.
  • Effectively communicates systematic reports to other healthcare providers.
  • Coordinates the delivery of care, utilizing available resources to enhance the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of intravenous therapy and hydration.
  • Implements strategies to foster health within a safe environment.
  • Evaluates and documents progress towards achieving desired outcomes.
  • Identifies expected interventions and outcomes for a personalized care plan, communicating effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Executes the care plan in a safe, timely, and appropriate manner.
  • Manages patient care with a comprehensive understanding of cancer, its treatments, and associated side effects.
  • Utilizes quality and evidence-based practices to enhance care delivery.
  • Collaborates closely with experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision.
  • In Infusion/Treatment Departments: demonstrates expertise in chemotherapy, biotherapy, and blood product administration.
  • In Radiation Oncology Departments: exhibits knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including management of side effects and symptoms, and demonstrates the ability to triage patients while coordinating with providers to meet care needs.
  • Must possess the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; must complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within five years of hire.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • One or more years of experience in medical-surgical or acute care settings
  • One or more years of experience in oncology nursing

Required Licensure and Certification

  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days of hire.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) in the state of employment; must obtain additional state licensure if applicable within six months of hire.
  • Staff hired prior to a specified date are required to obtain a multistate RN license by the next renewal date.

Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Chemo Certification from the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is preferred for Infusion/Treatment departments.

Work Schedule: Part-time
