Job Summary
Responsible for delivering direct patient care and assisting the manager with daily operations, including coordination of patient care and outcomes, resource allocation, communication, patient throughput, program development, and oversight, as well as staff selection, development, and retention. This role also includes clinical supervision, performance evaluation, performance improvement initiatives, service recovery, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the manager by employing systematic approaches to enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and service delivery in the department.
• Assist with the recruitment, selection, and supervision of nursing staff within the department.
• Facilitate communication through regular staff meetings and huddles to promote dialogue among team members.
• Collaborate with the manager to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding healthcare services and practices.
• Conduct rounds on patients, team members, and physicians to gather insights on patient care and satisfaction.
• Delegate care responsibilities to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with legal and policy guidelines.
• Assist in identifying expected outcomes to guide continuity of care and departmental operations.
• Evaluate progress towards achieving expected outcomes and share information with involved team members.
• Provide nursing care, assist with treatments, therapies, procedures, and administer medications as required.
• Manage patient flow and staffing by continuously assessing volume and acuity needs, utilizing available resources effectively.
Physical Requirements
Work involves walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be capable of lifting and supporting the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English is required. Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity and critical thinking skills.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Current RN licensure in the relevant state is required. A minimum of two years of nursing experience is preferred. Previous management experience is also preferred. A BSN is required.
Registered Nurse candidates who are hired externally or promoted internally without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within one year of hire or transfer and complete the program within three years of enrollment.
BLS certification is required as per policy guidelines. Appropriate professional certification (clinical or leadership) must be obtained within one year of eligibility for the certification exam. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required within the department by the nurse leader.
