Job Summary

A skilled Dialysis Nurse is sought after by Christus Health to provide high-quality patient care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves developing and implementing individualized and comprehensive care plans for each patient, providing direct and indirect care related to dialysis treatment, and operating dialysis equipment and supplies in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies for hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and facility hygiene, including cleaning and disinfection of work surfaces and equipment.
  • Operate dialysis equipment and supplies safely, effectively, and efficiently, in accordance with hospital and departmental policies, to provide optimal patient outcomes.
  • Follow established policies and procedures for water treatment and testing, and demonstrate electrolyte addition to acid concentrate as per physician orders.
  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-dialysis nursing assessments, including patient weight and fluid removal calculations, lung sounds, edema assessment, vital signs, and review of current lab results, as well as assessment and care of the dialysis access.
  • Obtain pre- and post-dialysis lab specimens as per physician orders and hospital/departmental policies.
  • Initiate, monitor, and terminate each dialysis treatment according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Respond to dialysis-related complications, emergencies, and technical issues in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Administer medications during dialysis in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of individualized and comprehensive care plans for each patient.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • RN License in the state of employment or compact
  • BLS Certification
