We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at Appalachian Regional Healthcare. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients and preparing them for laboratory testing.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, and bleeding time procedures.
- Identify patients and properly label specimen tubes.
- Determine priority of STAT draws and ensure timely transport of all patient specimens for testing.
- Utilize computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions.
- Assist coworkers when needed and communicate with laboratory departments to ensure an orderly workflow.
- Under supervision, help in the training of new employees and student interns in the performance of phlebotomy duties.
- Follow all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
- Attend required Safety Training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, departmental safety, and specific job-related hazards.
- Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment and maintaining neatness throughout the department.
- Record daily temperatures of all refrigerators in the phlebotomy areas.
- Organize assigned work and accurately complete workload.
- Perform various pre-analytical functions of specimens, including Custody and Control Drug Screens.
- Assist in keeping supplies at stock level.
- Complete daily log sheets.
- Clerical duties, including answering telephones, taking messages, performing data entry, giving reports, reprinting reports, making photocopies, faxing reports, and filing orders.
- Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy training program.
- One year or prior acceptable experience in laboratory technique, covering at least fifty percent of the clinical duties, which will be required in the job.
