Position Overview:

The Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program is dedicated to delivering comprehensive, multidisciplinary support to individuals diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF). Our program is nationally recognized for its excellence in care and commitment to improving patient outcomes. The staff nurse plays a crucial role in providing skilled, empathetic, and personalized nursing services to patients and their families within the outpatient care environment. This role emphasizes effective coordination of care in collaboration with practice leadership and the healthcare team to ensure that patient needs are met efficiently and with high standards of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver proficient and compassionate nursing care grounded in scientific principles and the nursing process.
  • Evaluate and prioritize patient referrals, inquiries, and urgent appointment requests.
  • Facilitate the follow-up of diagnostic results in accordance with provider recommendations.
  • Manage prescription renewals, administer injections, and conduct point-of-care testing.
  • Process medication refills, including necessary prior authorizations.
  • Document and report relevant patient information accurately in electronic health records.
  • Communicate care plans and other significant information with the healthcare team.
  • Provide education to patients and families, including potential visits to inpatient units for educational purposes.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives and contribute to the enhancement of care practices.
  • Interpret and explain hospital and departmental policies to nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Offer insights to practice leadership regarding operational needs and improvements.
  • Participate in committees focused on the development of nursing practices and hospital policies.
  • Ensure a supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with practice leadership to identify personal development goals and learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to relevant committees, professional gatherings, and continuing education programs.
  • Assist in connecting patients and families with community resources.
  • Occasionally provide cross-coverage for General Pulmonary triage as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Massachusetts.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience is essential.

  • Strong knowledge of clinical practices and healthcare management.
  • Effective time management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in information systems and technology.

Work Environment:

This position typically operates in standard office conditions, with potential requirements for attendance at meetings outside of regular hours.

Fiscal Responsibility:

The staff nurse is accountable for the prudent management of program resources, including supplies and project budgets.
