Job SummaryThe Emergency Room Nurse will provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency, acute care, outpatient, and swing bed care setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in nursing principles and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care, evaluating outcomes and adjusting nursing care processes as needed.
- Complete orientation packet and checklist as assigned.
- Cross-train to learn the use of new equipment.
- Perform head-to-toe assessments on patients and reassessments as per policy.
- Use triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients.
- Monitor hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interpret results.
- Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory's and the patient care unit's policies and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
- Follow the seven (7) medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors.
- Prepare, hang, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids with aseptic technique.
- Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Follow Provider orders from the electronic medical record consistently.
- Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
- Function as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current RN license within the state of practice.
- Current AHA BLS Certification.
- HA ACLS Certified within six (6) months of hire.
- TNCC within six (6) months of hire.
- NRP within 1 year of hire.
- HA PALS within six (6) months of hire.
The Emergency Room Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team setting and prioritize tasks to meet the needs of patients and the department.
